Nunchuk 2.0 introduces the first assisted inheritance solution with an autonomous, on‑chain failsafe—designed to outlive us.

For years, Bitcoin inheritance has presented a difficult trade-off: the convenience of assisted, collaborative custody solutions required trusting the provider’s long-term survival, while autonomous, self-sovereign solutions demanded significant technical expertise from both the user and their heirs.

Nunchuk 2.0 eliminates this compromise. By leveraging the power of Miniscript and on-chain timelocks, we now offer an inheritance solution that combines the ease of guided assistance with the absolute guarantee of autonomous execution — enforced by the Bitcoin network itself.

A Mission Forged Under Pressure

As detailed in our mission statement, “Our North Star,” the Freedom Convoy crisis in 2022 forged our DNA and clarified our mission: to build tools that maximize individual financial freedom and privacy.

That event taught us that true sovereignty requires technologies designed to withstand pressure — not just from governments, but from time itself.

Nunchuk 2.0 is the direct continuation of that commitment.

The Breakthrough: Autonomy Meets Assistance

Our new On-chain (Autonomous) protocol offers a unique dual-path recovery model, ensuring access for your heirs under any circumstances.

1. The Smooth Path (Guided Claim): We provide comprehensive, guided assistance to your beneficiary. Our automated service leads them through the entire process, reducing complexity and anxiety during a difficult time. Human experts are on standby, in case they run into any issue. This service is included with an active subscription. Should the subscription lapse, the beneficiary can reactivate the service for a small maintenance fee (0.3% of the assets being claimed).

2. The Failsafe (Autonomous Self-Claim): Upon creation of the plan, you receive a Bitcoin Inheritance Kit, a secure digital package with clear instructions and open-source tools for your beneficiary to recover funds independently. This ensures your legacy is protected even if Nunchuk is unavailable.

This dual-path approach — combining an assisted service with an autonomous guarantee — is the first of its kind in the industry.

The Technology: Robust and Innovative

The autonomous guarantee is made possible by integrating advanced Bitcoin technologies into a robust architecture.

• Miniscript and On-Chain Timelocks: Miniscript is an open Bitcoin standard, invented by Pieter Wuille. The on-chain timelocks are enforced directly by the Bitcoin network, ensuring immutability and autonomy.
• Robust Multisig Architecture: The solution utilizes a robust multisig configuration for day-to-day security (e.g., 2-of-4 for Honey Badger, 3-of-5 for Honey Badger Premier). This provides extreme fault tolerance: you can lose up to two keys and still recover your funds. The Platform Key facilitates advanced features such as Spending Limits and Co-Signing Delays.
• Decaying Quorum for Autonomy: When the on-chain timelock expires, the quorum requirements automatically decay (e.g., from 2-of-4 to 1-of-3). This activates the autonomous inheritance spend path, allowing the beneficiary to claim the funds without Nunchuk's involvement. This grants the beneficiary autonomous control. Crucially, this design eliminates reliance on Nunchuk without introducing a single point of failure: the beneficiary must still possess two distinct secrets — the Inheritance Key and the Miniscript wallet configuration (the “map” to the vault) — to claim the funds. An attacker who gains access to only one secret won’t be able to steal funds.

The Platform: Advanced, Flexible, and Private

Nunchuk 2.0 provides the most advanced and flexible platform for generational security.

• Choice of Protocols: Subscribers can now choose between the new On-chain (Autonomous) protocol for maximum resilience, or the existing Off-chain (Flexible) protocol, which allows for easy updates to the timelock without migrating funds. You can also switch between the protocols as you see fit.
• Automated Management: The platform supports seamless key rotation and timelock adjustments. If you need to postpone the timelock or replace keys for the on-chain timelock protocol, our guided workflow automates the migration process. Our advanced coin control helps you choose the optimal strategy for preserving privacy and coin organization.
• Granular Notifications: Configure detailed notification settings for both the owner and beneficiaries regarding key health checks, key rotation, timelock expiry and adjustments, and other critical security events related to the inheritance plan.
• Estate Planning Compatibility: Our solutions are designed to integrate with traditional estate planning. You can pass bitcoin directly to heirs, or involve a Trustee for a controlled process.
• Zero KYC: As with all Nunchuk products, our inheritance solutions are non-KYC. We build on cryptographic proof, not personal identity. Your privacy is paramount.

Availability and Updated Plans

The new On-chain (Autonomous) inheritance solution is available immediately to all existing and new Honey Badger and Honey Badger Premier subscribers.

We strongly encourage all users to try the new solution on testnet for free to familiarize themselves with the architecture and verify the autonomous recovery process.

To support the adoption of these new protocols and facilitate complex estate planning needs, we have updated our plans:

• Honey Badger plan now includes 2 assisted wallets by default.
• Honey Badger Premier plan now includes 3 assisted wallets by default.
• Additional wallets can also be purchased as add-ons.
